The female Pied Oystercatcher was guarding and sheltering the Pied Oystercatcher chicks when we visited two days after hatching and the egg shell had been removed from the nest. Prior to eggs hatching the Pied Oystercatchers are not generally vocal, but the arrival of chicks means they need to use their calls at all times.

Every day myself and other 'friends' went out of our way to terrify the poor helpless dog that used to live in this filthy run down shed for shelter. Dear ARAN Members, I remember as a young child throwing stones and sticks at a terrified greyhound that slept in a back shed a few blocks from where I live. He would not return for many hours.

It rained both nights at Saddle Creek, but we made use of the shelter and it did cool it down slightly! These storms are isolated and can be very heavy and the bird-life can really change following one of these rain events. We camped under a shelter at a rest area on the south side of the Ord River and watched the storms around us.

This time we decided to make use of the Rest Area and use the shelter and shade in case of a torrential downpour, which had occurred earlier in the day.
