Having successfully claimed ownership of the nest, the Piratic Flycatchers move in, lay and incubate their eggs, and ultimately raise their young in the pirated nest. I was saddened when I saw a White-lined Tanager feeding a Shiny Cowbird , but felt relieved a few weeks later when I saw her raising young of her own species. There are surprises, especially if you are not a natural “earbirder.”
