After my Przevalski experience, I now look up such names to check whether the person the bird is named after has made similar racist statements, or even done worse things. One being that the name is based on the bird’s soft feathers with a texture similar to a mouse’s fur. Gurney’s Sugarbird is not a name I made up.

I’ve never quite understood why so many people wrap their scopes up in little jackets, (but nor do I understand why it’s so popular to dress dogs up in coats, too, as they are already wrapped in fur.
