After this incredible rich quick stop we continued northbound searching at every ebird hotspot and any other stream crossings that came along but all the next hotpost fell short of our first experience. I’m not sure if this is exclusively my limited experience, let me know! While experiments have shown that some birds (like crows and parrots) can count, this rule unsurprisingly did not hold when subjected to testing. Not that truth matters here, I still think it’s a very cool name.

We were happy to experience three birds of prey on this jaunt. In the area of Morelia, where I live, no parrots are to be found. But here, Olive-throated Parakeets and White-fronted Parrots are a constant presence in the early morning and late evening. They are even more awkwardly cute than adult Jacanas. flying by at night.

This near-mythical parrot has captivated my subconscious from the moment I learned of its existence. A massive (largest member of the Amazona group of parrots) creature with searing red eyes set in a sea of blue, brown, and purple, the Imperial Parrot ( Amazona imperialis ) is a recluse of higher elevation forest on the island of Dominica.
