A Nice Walk in the Woods

I love to see the new growth on our dozens of oak species. A brief mixed flock experience included this Grace’s Warbler , which is one of our relatively few resident warblers down here. (In In contrast, we receive many winter migrant species.) The Mexican race of Bushtits always look rakish with their black masks.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of July 2021)

The best of summer birding in my experience takes place at the beach. Our land-locked species in temperate zones tend to become too focused on the little details of perpetuating their species to be sufficiently entertaining. Out on the shore, though, a whole suite of species exists in the places we gravitate to anyway.

Breeding Crested Pigeons in Broome

Considering Broome often experiences cyclones and strong winds it does make sense for the birds to build a more substantial nest to survive the extreme weather. The Crested Pigeon family remained in the tree away from danger for quite some time with both parents present.
