Now that we’ve entered the third month of the calendar year, take stock: did your birding March come in like a lion or a lamb? He didn’t see a ton of birds but he did appreciate the number of Snow Geese flocking up at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. My birding was positively sheepish during this busy weekend.

The month eases you in, docile as a lamb, but promises to bite you on the back end. He couldn’t decide between a Bobolink on the barrier beaches of Queens and the Eurasian Wigeon on the East Pond of Jamaica Bay.
