There was a time when I thought each bird species had its own individual song. Then I found out that there was this vocalization called a ‘call,’ so I thought each bird species had its own individual song (but just the males) and individual call. I do wish there was more about research on female bird song.

Vagrancy in Birds is organized into two major parts: (1) A detailed, 62-page synthesis of research and theory and (2) “Family Accounts,” 259 pages covering bird families from Struthionidae/Ostriches) to Thraupidae/Tanagers and allies (Clements is the taxonomic authority). It’s not always easy reading.

Dear Senator Murray, I have read articles in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times about the chimpanzees at Holloman Air Force Base. This is a matter of human compassion to prevent the further suffering of animals that have already served this species in prior experiments.
