Parrots captivate me more than any other bird family. With their strong flight and capability to disperse, parrots have managed to colonize almost every major island group from Tahiti to Mauritius to Dominica. There seems to be a parrot for almost any ecological situation. I am a self-proclaimed psittacophile.
Further afield, amidst crowds of raucous Orange-winged Parrots was a pair of Mealy Parrots. As per usual parrot protocol, they were difficult to detect once they alighted in the trees. Fortunately, they were moving around quite a bit and that helped me to locate them.

In Costa Rica, although I did spend a memorable one years ago in the Osa Peninsula where flocks of parrots flew into the mangroves while we feasted on turkey, pie, and the works, we have no actual Wild Turkeys , nor an official Thanksgiving. Based on how naturally parrots and leafbirds (the real ones in Asia, not the figments that plague birders in every country) blend into foliage, I’d imagine that most arboreal avian species would want the same advantages. Yellow-naped Parrot. Endangered and awesome, it’s pretty easy to experience this big parrot in the Pacific lowlands of Costa Rica from Tarcoles north to near Nicaragua.
