I could be reading into this, but it does appear that there's some discomfort on the part of non-vegans when they look through the calendar and I tell them the story. And when you're checking out at the health food store with your cans and bag of vegan dog food, how could that not be a seedy opportunity? Segue into horse racing.

Here's my recommendation as someone with six years of experience, not as a veterinarian : Insulin for humans (Humulin N/NPH) is just fine for most dogs, plus it's synthethic and more in line with veganism--animal cells are used in the production of Vetsulin. There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. I do think that in my lifetime greyhound racing will end, circuses will be animal-free, elephants and marine mammals won't be in zoos, and fur might even be banned. I'm still not sure why vegan education can't be part of any of these efforts. ).

And I received confirmation of something I've known since 2004, when we adopted retired racing greyhound, Violet Rays: That there's sort of a critical period for dog-behavior acquisition, and if it's missed, the dog isn't likely to mature into the type of loving being whose behavior we've come to associate with "pet" dogs.
