Although not a birding trip, before we moved from San Francisco to Portland, my wife and I did a long road trip across the United States, covering 12,000 miles and 34 states, from California to Florida to Maine to Montana.

So here is an even more modest proposal than roasting Fido: Try eating only what animals you are willing to kill with your own hands. We carnivores have to become more benevolent.
