Some ten years ago, I almost found Ruddy Shelducks near Bodrum, in western Turkey. I try to reach Ceda by phone, but when I naively switched my mobile back to factory settings, I lost quite a few numbers, his among them. And I could swear – they knew it! Almost” here means that I missed a dozen strong flock by a mere half an hour.

The animal rights movement is (rightly) closely associated with protesting things like factory farming, dogfighting, etc…basically, the mistreatment of animals. Unfortunately, once we discuss anything beyond this basic point, people vastly disagree on what is right and wrong. This makes perfect sense.

However, the factory farm system we have in any country does not lend itself to either of the two criteria. There are probably no happy animals in factory farming (ie. Factory farms are unlikely to be properly and regularly inspected by the USDA. Factory animals are voiceless victims. big corporate agribusiness.)
