You are also probably aware that Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, one of the best urban birding sites in the world, is on my regular list of spots that I like to stop by and visit. I have seen some absolutely amazing birds at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. I can’t abide the thought of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge without a West Pond.

Peregrine Falcon is certainly more elegant than Duck Hawk. One of the highlights of the trip for me, and for some of the other media folks being hosted by the Fallon Convention and Tourism Authority, was a kayak tour of Tule Lake in the Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge. Our guide, former wildlife refuge manager Mike Goddard, pointed out a pair of Cinnamon Teal in flagrante delicto.

Fish & Wildlife Service expects sea levels to rise due to global warming, swamping beaches on which Snowy Plovers currently nest, it is good news that the number of beaches proposed for protection as Snowy Plover nesting habitat has doubled. Fish & Wildlife comes in response to a lawsuit brought by the Center for Biological Diversity.

On the drive I had picked up the flamboyant Red-collared and Long-tailed Widowbirds , extraordinary members of the weaver family who’s ridiculous tails make them easy to spot even from a moving car. Longclaws are African members of the pipit and wagtail family, and unlike the rest of the family they have gorgeously-coloured throats.

This location is great as it is close to Jeanne’s Family, as well as a very short drive to the Billy Frank Jr. This refuge came up as #4 on a recent list of the top 25 National Wildlife Refuges that were featured in a great story here by 10000 Birds own Jason Crotty. I went to the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival in Titusville, Florida. We had a wonderful family vacation in Germany and the Czech Republic during which I managed to do a bit of birding. Snowcap and White-tipped Sicklebill – Choice hummingbirds in a speciose, fantastic family of birds. Luckily, we birded in and around Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge on two separate trips and picked up all key species from that area! We saw both of these beauties at known sites near the edge of Braulio Carrillo National Park.

It brings a promise that – instead of being drowning cormorants themselves – locals can stay, work, start their families here, and attract foreign birders to their lake instead of leaving for Germany themselves.

Then we relocated to a spot where people were seeing several and arrived just in time to see the last one present get snatched by a Peregrine Falcon.
