We are unsure as to what the bird population is there, but there are a lot less birds present at the old ones. They had to close their Poo Ponds to tourists/birders recently due to a feral dog problem, but this has been addressed and access is now possible. Those that had stayed had bred, though and there are a few family groups.

There is a family of feral foxes that I often encounter near Bennison Creek. The Bell Miner was still present on the 16th December and thankfully I was able to show it to a local birder. Bennison Creek Bridge. White-eared Honeyeater. They usually bolt as soon as they see me, but I have been able to take a few photos of them.

After a quick run to the coast where I picked up a bunch of new year birds (and saw a Feral Pigeon on my way for my first bird of the year ) I headed to Crocheron Park where the tanager, I presumed, was the sole survivor of the original winter rarity trio of Yellow-breasted Chat , Wilson’s Warbler , Western Tanager.

After arranging to meet up with my sister and her family in Kalbarri earlier this year we had looked for a suitable camping area in between Geraldton and Perth and came across the Shire of Carnamah’s website that had information on Lake Indoon. Feral bees. The distance was approximately 4 kilometres/ 2 1/2 miles.

It appeared that Lake Bindegolly National Park could also offer us the same birding opportunities if there was water present. As we wandered along the trail we soon encountered family groups of both White-winged Fairywrens and Variegated Fairywrens. Feral pigs. Orange Chat. Turtle shell. Outback flies!

Ring-necked Parakeet Ring-necked Parakeet Staying with the hole-breeding theme, the chicks of the ever-present Eurasian Nuthatches and Great T**s had left their nests by now. Eurasian Nuthatch Great Tit While I was initially not too enthusiastic about twitching the Eurasian Scops-Owl , I’m very happy I did.

Over President’s Day weekend my family and I took a much-needed break in Jamaica. Brown Pelicans were always present and regularly dove for fish, as you can see in the above photo. A couple of Willets joined the flock of turnstones on the last day of our stay. What the resort did have was a variety of pigeons and doves.
