Duck hunting is big business in the United States. But what about those of us who’d rather just look at ducks than shoot them? Where’s our duck stamp?

The homeowner, Fred Jordan, has been hosting visiting birders who heard of the bird through word-of-mouth since November. Many thanks to Fred Jordan for being a wonderful host with great enthusiasm for his awesome avian visitor. Third of all, the bird that was first seen on 30 October is, as of this blog posting, STILL THERE!

First, we had our five-week trip to Spain, Turkey and Jordan in September and October. Then we threw together a semi-planned family-related trip to the States in early December. I assured him then, and assure you now, that I am fine. But my wife’s and my lives have been rather chaotic of late.

With a full-time job and a toddler at home, I find that paying attention to counties offers the opportunity to fill that competitive jones that so many birders feel without running deficits in time and money that would see me pushing the boundaries of my family’s patience. This has been a challenging, but immensely fun, endeavor.

Some of this tourism occurred because we were supposed to visit Jordan, but recent geopolitical events have made Americans rather unwelcome in that corner of the world. The addition of a family of Least Grebes was a nice touch. This trip included seven international flights, between six countries, on three continents.

Hes only been birding since 2005 but has garnered a respectable life list by birding whenever he wasnt working as a union representative or spending time with his family. Larry Jordan Mar 1st, 2011 at 3:06 am I plan on doing an entire post on bird butts sometime in the future. I guess I’m one of those pervs.
