I started the year in Florida, traveled to India with the ABA in February, combined family and birding in an August trip to California, and in-between saw very good birds in New York and New Jersey. Many sad and unfortunate things occurred in 2016, but the birding was good. 7) Piping Plover. But, I saw the bird!

Hunting sandhill cranes in Kentucky is a bad idea from a public relations standpoint, considering the growing cadre of birders and nature enthusiasts for whom cranes are a touchstone species. Initiating a hunting season on a large, charismatic species like a crane is no way to resuscitate hunting.

She packed her bags, waved her family goodbye, and left for Sweden. Lilac would have been a more appropriate name as this shrub was everywhere – seems to be an invasive species. The town is central to many other hotspots and it should be possible to get to more than 100 species in a day or two. Singing birds were everywhere.
