Until last month it was an East Anglian list, as I hadn’t ventured far from home, but a trip to Northern England last month did add some northern specials, such as Dipper and Puffin. This was an unexpected encounter Griffon Vulture : common in Spain, but seriously endangered in Cyprus Shrikes are one of my favourite families of birds.

A few families have a small number of eggs in the clutches, like gulls or cormorants. The auks, which range from puffins to guillemots all the way to the tiny auklets and murrelets, are typical for seabirds, long lived with tiny clutches of one or two eggs. Seabirds are one group of birds that go for the latter strategy.

Atlantic Puffins are easier to see, and see well, in Maine than anywhere else in the United States. I spotted two puffins on the way out though they were distant and took off before we got close.
