Today, I saw a handful of Mallards , two Common Mergansers, and a Wood Duck Family. Qatar species – 9. This Western Wood Pewee was going back and forth with a mouth full of bugs as well. In the winter this place is alive with thousand of ducks and geese. Here are a couple of the babies that have wandered off from mom.

And I hugged a woman who was lucky enough to hold a Spix’s Macaw at the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation in Qatar while on vacation in the Middle East some years ago. Green-and-rufous Kingfisher is the only Cholorceryle species I haven’t seen, so observing one would complete a genus in this fascinating family. Get yours today!

Well, for us, we went to Doha, Qatar. We have been dragging him thru every bird spot possible, so he could go to Scotland to see where his family is from. Speaking of Bank Swallows , here is one of those family groups. After leaving Africa, I was fearing a real let down in my birding. Where do you go from there?
