Two weeks after finding a Say’s Phoebe at Edgemere Landfill in the company of my family I convinced them to return to Edgemere yesterday afternoon for another visit. But that northwest wind got kind of brutal after awhile so we decided to head off the top of the capped landfill and find a more sheltered area to enjoy the day.

There was little movement by the family during the heat of the day except to fly to the shoreline for a drink and to cool their feet. They sheltered the chicks under their wings and when there are only two chicks one parent can do this, but with three it seems to be more of a shared duty.

We had taken a trail down from the main path in Kent Park to a shelter to discover several bird species in the area including the White-crested Laughingthrush. The first place we noticed the White-crested Laughingthrush was on the shelter roof. The shelter was in a small clearing and we were alone in the area apart from the birds.
