By this I mean applying the term antelope to cover all of the family Bovidae, which would include the sheep, goats and ox. One of the spiral-horned antelope (the antelopes are a huge family and much sub-divided) it resembles an intermediate between a Lesser Kudu and a Bushbuck , albeit with much longer and more attractive hair on the males.

On another trip, this time to Slovakia, I heard wolves howling, a wonderfully spine-tingling sound. No, not an Arctic Fox, but a Red Fox in Arctic Finland I may not have seen many wolves, but I have seen lots of foxes (or what I should perhaps call red foxes). Why the weasel should be the head of the family doesn’t really make sense.

Before I was born, it used to be a rare breeding species in mountainous areas south of Belgrade, but became extinct after the 1960s due to intensive poisoning of wolves. Stopping for a large cappuccino at a drive-in McDonalds en route, soon I entered a hamlet of a dozen family homes mixed with a dozen small apartment buildings.

Peregrine don’t take many, being more of a bird prey specialist, but apart from that they are the daily feature on the menu of foxes, ermine, wolves, Rough-legged Hawks , Gyrfalcon and especially Snow Owls. A friend of mine saw a family of eight Ermine while hiking this past summer. Did I mention they’re fast?

I'm not surprised Sarah Palin's family is from Idaho. Tags: cull montana idaho wolves. The state government is as crazy about wolf killing as she is. But a US District Court Judge has granted a hearing on stopping the killing to wolf advocates represented by Earthjustice. Montana is another state where wolf killing is allowed.

It was here I managed to finally find my Brown Hyaena, making that family the first family of mammals of which I have seen every species (Spotted, Brown, Striped Hyaenas and Aardwolf)). The park also has Cheetahs and Painted Wolves (and while I didn’t see the later, they are fairly reliable). Purple Roller.

It was pretty awesome to see so many tuskers, as well as families of elephants safe in their special park. The park did have a pack of African Wild Dogs, or Painted Wolves, the species I had gone to Africa to see. They were not a major focus of monitoring as they often spent quite a lot of time in areas not served by roads.
