It was a fun time and I had high hopes for the morning when we would be over the deep waters off the continental shelf laying down a fish oil slick before dawn. We lined up on the port side of the boat, facing east and the fish oil slick that was slowly drifting away from us. There were three birds I really wanted to see.

I walked into an enormous dining area filled with rehabbers, and they were all eating lasagna and talking about the kind of animal medical issues that would send most people running from the room. It was the first time I went to a wildlife rehabilitators conference. I thought, “Finally! I’ve found my tribe!”. photo by John Huba.
