A Relaxing Big Day in Florida

My husband and I hooked up our boat to the trailer and set off to the Santa Rosa Sound in Florida’s Panhandle around 3 p.m., In fact, even with the tern and waterfowl species designations I only made it to 11 avian varieties. That my data would be used in a global citizen science event? hitting the water just before 4 p.m.

My eBird 10th Anniversary

During the decade, I submitted 1,219 checklists and observed 555 bird species, all in the U.S. After an initial period when all species are new, the lifers begin to follow a pattern. Thus, I can pinpoint my first pelagic trip, as it added 13 new species. Birding trips to Florida , New Mexico , and Texas are obvious too.

My Great Backyard Bird County on the Florida Panhandle

There is no doubt in my mind that the annual Great Backyard Bird Coun t (GBBC) is the most impressive citizen science endeavor in the world. Halfway through February some migratory species have already begun to arrive, so I made sure to keep my peepers peeled. In an hour I had recorded sixteen species. Willet and Sanderling.
