They received citations for animal welfare infractions, although apparently few of these infractions overlap with PETA claims from an undercover investigation. The Salt Lake Tribune claims the infractions are only minor (interesting how different publications will provide different spins). You decide. From the Deseret News.

In an act of kindness, the police took the dog, which was a Greyhound female, to the nearby Nuneaton Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary, run by a man named Geoff Grewcock and known as a willing haven for Animals abandoned, orphaned or otherwise in need. It took several weeks, but eventually both goals were achieved. And one roe deer fawn.

On the other hand, kids that don’t get the experience of having a pet early may become afraid of animals, especially if their parents don’t particularly care for animals. I got my first pets, mice and guinea pigs, when I was 8. For these folks, I recommend a nontraditional pet like a rat or a guinea pig.

In university labs nationwide, scientists inflict spinal-cord injuries on dogs and cats, inject rats with carcinogens, test dangerous drugs on monkeys, and do all kinds of evil things to guinea pigs in the name of scientific research. So why is one type of animal cruelty (dogfighting) more reprehensible than another (lobster-boiling)?
