I want to talk about why we shouldn't be using animals and that it's infinitely easier to be a vegan than it was 20 years ago. If you believe your dog has a right to a life free of torture and slaughter for no reason, then you really ought to think about extending that right to mice, rats, chickens and fish. daily, in the blogosphere.

On the other hand, kids that don’t get the experience of having a pet early may become afraid of animals, especially if their parents don’t particularly care for animals. I got my first pets, mice and guinea pigs, when I was 8. People sometimes ask me what are some good pets for a young child to have, and why.

What’s even more frustrating is when animal rights people learn of plans to cull nonnative species. Instead of embracing these fantastic programs, a typical reaction from people within the animal rights movement is to condemn and protest the act, because animals were going to die. The logic of this is ridiculous.

They received citations for animal welfare infractions, although apparently few of these infractions overlap with PETA claims from an undercover investigation. The Salt Lake Tribune claims the infractions are only minor (interesting how different publications will provide different spins). You decide. From the Deseret News.

Discouraged the filing of health status reports to staff veterinarians -- "even when animals were clearly in distress.'' » Failed to provide adequate housing and management for animals that, in some instances, led to unnecessary stress, pain, injury or death. Certainly a case to follow.
