The bill also bans the importation of puppies from foreign puppymills, and increases penalties for violations of the Animal Welfare Act from $2,500 to $10,000.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Catholic catechism affirm that compassion for animals is a matter of human dignity. The Episcopal Church embraces a resolution that specifically addresses puppymills and factory farms. The Catholic Church is not alone among major religions on this issue.
