Checking out their website, I came across this page saying that they merged with the Humane Society in 2006. I also learned that the Humane Society merged with the Fund for Animals in 2005. Tags: organizations animal welfare. The live link takes me to an announcement in 2006 about the merger.

Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) received the Humane Society’s Legislative Leader award for her leadership in protecting animals. The Humane Society of the United States cited Senator Cantwell’s efforts to improve marine mammal rescue capability, including such challenges as disentangling marine mammals from fishing nets.

According to a legal opinion solicited by the Humane Society International Canada, Air Canada can set and amend the terms of its tariffs. "In In our opinion, Air Canada is not legally obligated to accept monkeys as cargo," said the opinion written by Lawyers for Animal Welfare.

An enormous victory was achieved for animals this week when nearly 200 dogs and 54 cats were rescued from a North Carolina animal testing facility that closed its doors after an undercover investigation revealed apparent abuse of the animals by workers at the facility.

I don't support animal research and I have no sympathy for animal researchers. I don't believe they are working for human welfare. I don't believe they want an honest dialogue about what they are doing to animals. I don't believe they are "brave" for "standing up" to animal rights activists.
