But Wyndridge produces three other cider varieties, each labeled with an equally dapper rabbit, red fox, or cat – species I hardly associate with intoxicating inclinations, so I suspect the waxwing label wasn’t a comment on the occasional excesses of this species. In the mid 1700s, fur-traders began introducing foxes up and down the Aleutian chain, in order to generate some more raw material work with. The foxes wreaked havoc on nesting birds, and island by island the geese disappeared, until it seemed that they were gone for good.

European Red Foxes were brought into Australia in the 1850′s for recreational hunting and soon spread rapidly. The European Rabbit was also introduced for hunting by early settlers and it soon bred and became highly invasive. Like the European Rabbit they degrade the soil and eat the vegetation and need to be controlled.

One wouldn’t tether a rabbit out to get a shot of a fox or a coyote, or is that somehow different? How do birds that are already stressed, such as many of the Snowy Owls in the south this year are, fare? I am well aware of the debate that this is no different than photographing birds at a feeder, but for me it feels different.
