Pets come to depend on their owners, trusting them to do what’s best for them, and every owner should make the effort to treat their pet right. Just like people, pets that are not treated right can suffer from stress and other health problems, and an inadequate diet, for example, will make cats more prone to infections and illnesses.
One thing every guide should avoid – and it may be hard to resist, especially when it is some mega, is giving useless information like: “Right there, two weeks ago, I’ve seen an Elvis Bird.” However knowledgeable you might be, you cannot know for sure that an uninjured, free-ranging bird will be waiting for you where it usually does.
Hetty Alcuitas, a volunteer with Grassroots Women, said she sympathizes with the environmental and animal-rights arguments against caged chickens. But with battery eggs costing about $2 a dozen and organic free-range eggs costing between $5 and $6 a dozen, the impact of the proposed change goes beyond poultry.
We are currently doing an investigation on pig farms in Spain, including intensive and extensive/free-range farms (tho extensive ones are scarce since intensive ones are the majority in the industry). There's a donate button on the homepage of AnimalEquality right at the bottom of the "Pig Farms" panel. Thanks a lot.
Their bully sticks are inspected and approved by USDA/FDA, and come from freerange, grass fed bulls. She grabbed it right away and worked on it off and on for the rest of the day. Not only are they made from quality ingredients, they seem to taste really, really, good. Not the case with the bully sticks from Best Bully Sticks.
Also frequent escapees (or very freeranging domestics) are guinea fowl and to a lesser extent a number of other gamebirds up to and including peacocks. It is correct, of course, to think of extinction this way during the Holocene Extinction, which we are living through right now. What a horror! What a disaster! What a wrong!
1, 2012, egg-laying hens across many European countries will live with fewer discomforts: The European Commission has officially implemented its ban on battery cages, the notoriously cramped cages used by many egg farmers and criticized by animal rights proponents and veterinarians who call them cruel and harmful to the birds' welfare.
From the 6th -10th of July we are asking everyone to get their aprons on and bake with free-range or organic eggs. As for categories, I never got that one right, either. It facilitates discussion when the most recent comments are right there on the home page and all you have to do is click on them to chime in. I didn't do the right thing for Animal Person. Every blogger's goal is to have their blog read, right? But I didn't.
To the Editor: Re “ Egg Producers and Humane Society Urging Federal Standard on Hen Cages ” (Business Day, July 8): I’m a vegetarian who turned vegan after coming to terms with the fact that just because I was eating hormone-free, antibiotic-free, even free-range organic eggs didn’t mean that egg-producing hens were living a cruelty-free life.
An abstract of a scientific paper reads as follows (unabridged): “External examination of freerange abandoned dead Greater Coucal in a veterinary dispensary, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India revealed presence of a large sized louse in the feathers and was identified as Laemobothrion maximum on the basis of morphology and size of the louse.”
If you are a non-meat-eating, non-leather-wearing, non-shampoo-using, animal-rights activist for PETA, then it is not hypocritical to judge Vick for animal abuse. I still eat eggs that come from battery hens, even though I do try to buy freerange, and I wear leather, even though I only buy it used. None of us is pure.
That’s right, for me—but it may not be for others. To the Editor: The term “freerange” sounds prettier than it usually is. Egg production, including on free-range farms, entails the mass killing of newborn male chicks, a point made in Nicholas D. I still have the same six-pack stomach I had in the Marines.
To the Editor: Re “ Suddenly, the Hunt Is On for Cage-Free Eggs ” (front page, Aug. 12): While this is a step in the right direction toward reducing the animal abuse inherent in all factory farming (from the chicken’s point of view), it’s still a long way from what nature intended.
Words like 'pastured,' 'grass-fed,' and 'free-range' are now synonymous with quality meat; they carry a potent if symbolic meaning that has eased many a consumer’s conscience and driven many a marketing campaign."
