They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. Secondly, New Zealand had already experienced on wave of extinction due to the introduction or rats and human hunting. Rabbits are still an agricultural pest.

Not only were they a common bird, they were a common bird nearshore; indigenous peoples hunted them up and down the coast. In the mid 1700s, fur-traders began introducing foxes up and down the Aleutian chain, in order to generate some more raw material work with. It was thought of as a wonder-chemical, with no ill effects.
