Canada's military is reverting to issuing real fur winter hats to soldiers, replacing synthetic tuques for winter use, the Department of Defense announced. An initial order for 1,000 of the new "Yukon" hats with muskrat fur has been placed at a cost of $65,000, the Globe and Mail reported. I think this is just stubbornness.

Over 3 million pairs of Antarctic Fur Seals breed on South Georgia, saved from near extinction by fur hunters. Others, my favorites, show the species within the habitat: breaching Humpback Whales, a Reindeer confronting a King Penguin (below), an elevated view of a beach full of breeding Fur Seals.

Again, they just want to prevent the "cruel" hunters from killing Bambi's mother. Latimer's ignorance also comes across in his discussion of anti-fur campaigns, so it's easy to miss this potentially good point (about some animal activists): But did you ever notice that we don't hear very much from them if anything about shoe leather?

Finally in 1799, the first visitors on this volcanic land were a group of French seal hunters who were after the fur seals that can be found hauled out on the beaches for fur and oil, which almost wiped out the local population of the species. None of the three voyagers made landfall due to poor weather and dangerous conditions.
