In Oregon, the Barred Owl is taking over Northern Spotted Owl territory and threatening that smaller bird’s survival. He likes books too, which made him the ideal reviewer for Cat Wars: The Devastating Consequences of a Cuddly Killer. This is Mark’s first contribution to 10,000 Birds.

It covers seabirds and marine mammals and miscellaneous living things–creatures likely to be found on day trips from the coasts of Washington, Oregon, and California. (And, at 5 by 8 inches it may be small enough to fit into some people’s pockets.) The number of gulls and terns covered is limited to “small, ocean-going” birds.

In the early morning hours of October 17th, a lone activist infiltrated the fur farm at 92659 Simonsen Road in Astoria Oregon. fur farmers are a dying breed. According to Bite Back Magazine , an activist released 1500 mink from a farm in Astoria. The fact that there is no fence around this farm should help ease their escape.

Hannah Buschert was first exposed to birds and birding during a required ornithology course at Oregon State University and she quickly caught the birding bug. None of the three voyagers made landfall due to poor weather and dangerous conditions.

Nonetheless, Chino, a golden retriever who lived with Mary and Dan Heath in Medford, Oregon, and Falstaff, a 15-inch koi, had regular meetings for six years at the edge of the pond where Falstaff lived.
