My name is Kalu Afasi, I am a birding guide from Ghana, a country in West Africa. In the more recent past, I have founded my own company, MALIMBE TOURS, also known as GHANA BIRD TOURS. I chose the name Malimbe Tours because the first bird I ever set eyes on through a pair of binoculars was one of our dazzling malimbe species.

Despite its rather toxic-looking colors, the African Green Pigeon is trapped for food in Ghana. A study has shown that they make false alarm calls when seeing other species such as meerkats with attractive food. They are being parasitized by indigobirds which also use other host species. Approximately 2,300 bird species inhabit Africa, however as impressive as that sounds, much smaller South America boasts nearly 1,000 species more. Madagascar’s mammals are equally remarkable; over 100 species of endearing lemurs and bizarre carnivores amongst them!
Well – I only saw two species, the most common ones at Sepilok, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. The British then posthumously named a fort after him (Ussher Fort in Ghana) – not a great consolidation when you are already dead, but then, not many things are. Not that they need many words anyway. As it does not look shabby at all.
