Apparently, the signs on this car indicate that the person in the car has just returned from Mekka – which allows the local kids to harass the passenger for sweets. It should surprise no one that someone brought horses, or goats, or chickens. Part of the world they wanted to transport was natural. So that New Zealand would end up with quite a few species of animal not originally found here is hardly surprising of itself. But hedgehogs? Greenfinches? What exactly was going on.

Of course, when speaking of the devil, it is hard for me not to mention the song “The best ever death metal band from Denton” by The Mountain Goats. Morcombe (Birds of Australia) is also known as ‘Devil-bird’ because it is always found in the darkest parts of the rainforest.
