Here's my recommendation as someone with six years of experience, not as a veterinarian : Insulin for humans (Humulin N/NPH) is just fine for most dogs, plus it's synthethic and more in line with veganism--animal cells are used in the production of Vetsulin. And I received confirmation of something I've known since 2004, when we adopted retired racing greyhound, Violet Rays: That there's sort of a critical period for dog-behavior acquisition, and if it's missed, the dog isn't likely to mature into the type of loving being whose behavior we've come to associate with "pet" dogs.

There is a general consensus that vegetarianism and veganism are different philosophically. I do think that in my lifetime greyhound racing will end, circuses will be animal-free, elephants and marine mammals won't be in zoos, and fur might even be banned. I'm still not sure why vegan education can't be part of any of these efforts. ).

The life expectancy of greyhounds is 12-15 years. Unfortunately, Violet doesn't like her vegan food or most other food, but will eat food that smells terrible for some reason. There she is. She has beaten the odds and made it another year. If they've raced, you subtract a year for each year of racing.

I also find that to be the case within the community of nonvegan, pro-animal activists, such as greyhound advocates. They don't see veganism as related to their fight against dog racing, at first (or second. ).

Because we planned to adopt I had been researching eco-friendly, vegan nursery items but had yet to purchase a thing. I chose a cow for Sky's first stuffed animal, and I hope that she will grow up to honor and respect the lives of cows the same way she will honor and respect the lives of greyhounds.
