One of those is vet bills, which of course aren't deductible, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't know the total. I'm doing my best in an imperfect world to respect the rights of other sentients, and I have heard vegans say that sanctuaries--and not pet ownership--will be the only way out of subjugation for cats and dogs.

We have a request, and it's an issue I've written about a handful of times but never had this particular question answered by readers: How do you talk with your vet--who is against feeding your dog vegan food--about your choice to do so? Violet the diabetic greyhound does very well as a vegan as her recent blood work demonstrated.

Greyhound skin is very thin. The greyhound people tell you that, not to mention it's pretty obvious. For these reasons, my vet had no problem with me stockpiling Vetsulin. So he is being re-veganized (Violet's already vegan), as long as his back and leg aren't adversely affected. But alas, the supply has dwindled.

Dr. Newest Vet sent this to me from yesterday's day at "camp" for Charles. Also, an update on Emily's 50% vegan (Ami) diet. And the "strict ethical vegan" to come.) Tags: Current Affairs Ethics Greyhound Matters Language. He also said he can achieve healing. That was the word I was looking for.

I began my journey by discovering something you all probably know, which is that you can substitute cooked black-eyed peas or adzuki beans for flour, like in the recipe for the above vegan flourless chocolate cake. The life expectancy of greyhounds is 12-15 years. Then there's her hideous gum disease that has left her few remaining teeth in bad shape but without much to do for them (the vets won't touch them). We spent the end of 2004 and beginning of 2005 getting fired by vet after vet. There she is. She's our 62-pound miracle.

I alerted my regular (non-specialist) vet of this and though he didn't treat me like a crazy person, he didn't do any research, either. Last night, my vet called to update me. Tags: Current Affairs Greyhound Matters. Other times, nine was too much and Violet would come close to crashing. He just figures I know what I'm doing.
