Let me start off with being quite clear, there are no grizzlyBears on the Baja! All of which, was for one a one day shoot with the famed bears, as they dined on the fall salmon run. In addition to the GrizzlyBears , I was able to photograph Woodland Buffalo , squirrels, deer, Red Fox , and even a herd of Yaks.
But when taken as a whole, the impact of the Refuge System is truly profound, supporting population-level numbers of numerous bird species. The System also protects bison , bighorn sheep , panthers , elk , grizzlybears , manatees , and ocelots , among others. It’s not just for the birds.
The Anchorage area hosts a number of far norther species I could never hope to see in North Carolina, and I quickly pulled together a list of targets and my friends made a plan. ” A mid-sized GrizzlyBear was slowly making its way along the opposite bank of the river.
Interestingly, the eagle featured in Panama’s coat of arms is not the Harpy Eagle, but a representation of an American eagle species, as the United States was the first country to recognize Panama’s independence. A Harpy Eagle. Like Woods, I can’t get over their talons.
Each of them has a story, most of which do not need to be covered in detail, but I will include at least a small statement for support of each species, and it’s place on this semi-prestigious list. The first of many new species on that trip, but still the first! #7
In talking to the local guides, and Rangers, they all agreed that they had not been seeing too many species around in the last couple of weeks. You know, the Bison, Elk, Bears and Wolves. We did not ever see a GrizzlyBear, but we did see a Black Bear , although it was way too far away for a picture.
I must have keep 400 images in the file of just this one species. This late evening photo of an American Avocet is one of my all time favorites of this species. While in Kodiak Alaska, I did get a few very nice Kodiak GrizzlyBear shots. This large bear was chasing salmon, and paid me little or no attention.
