Yes, the earth has gone around the sun twice since the uproar from birders and other lovers of wildlife managed to convince the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to table the idea of hunting Sandhill Cranes in Tennessee for two years. Cancel the 17-year-old annual festival, and propose a hunting season on cranes. It’s bad PR.

The Gulf of Cadiz, from Cadiz itself, right along the coasts of Huelva and the Algarve to Cape St Vincent in Portugal, is a favourite hunting ground of mine and the operators willing to take you out have been on the increase in recent years. Wilson’s Storm Petrel Oceanodroma oceani cus seems to be everyone’s target species.

Our group watching the first Snow Leopard from a knoll above our camp in Hemis National Park. Furthermore, the total population in Hemis National Park is estimated at 50-60 individuals, making the park an important genetic reservoir for this species which is classified on the IUCN’s Red Data List as Endangered.

Winter Birding in Maastricht

I did not have good views at all, although after a long time observing I had managed to pick up all the ID features, and enjoyed watching its different hunting behaviour compared to the plentiful Great Cormorants. I was very happy about this lifer as I had been hoping to see this species in autumn during my stay on Heligoland.
