If 10 birders all tell you this is a Sora , and you think it’s a Virginia Rail , I suggest you take the possibility that this is a Sora into consideration. Don’t even bring up using tapes on endangered species. Listen to the people. The interwebs, aside from being a haven for cat videos, is a great place to learn.

This was a wonderful re-introduction to the desert species I was seeking. I met the group in Tucson and we spend the next week birding the hell out of the Sky Islands. There were a couple of birding festivals in progress in Arizona, and I arrived on the heels of several groups. Now, years later, it was time to return.
