Driving slowly along the entrance road to the lodge we came upon a lone Marail Guan dabbling in the leaf litter nearby.

The third spinetail is a complete forest denizen and spends its time hopping through leaf litter, searching for arthropods. Life is simple with ten furnariids – neighboring Guyana has 44! With a distinctive pot-bellied silhouette, it is rarely misidentified.
