But most of all Emmie loves Hamlet, her hamster. Emmie is fourteen years old and has loved several hamsters since she was seven: Carnie, Ophelia, Ichilles and now Hamlet. Carnie, the first hamster, was the tragic one. She would rub her nose across his body, sniffing deeply while the hamster waited, amused, by the affair.
Cats and dogs are the most popular pets, along with hamsters, rabbits and guinea pigs also being amongst the favourites. Although keeping goats does require a bit more work than keeping cats or hamsters, they will reward you with their intelligent personalities and social nature. Suburban practices may primarily serve dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, and other common household pets. Independent vet clinics compete with each other, in addition to the services offered at large pet stores. Rural practices may specialize in large animal services and make house calls for cattle, horses or sheep.
Guinea pigs also do not bite, unlike hamsters and gerbils which can tend to be nippy. Whether your family chooses a hamster or a dog, be prepared to care for your pet in sickness and in health. For these folks, I recommend a nontraditional pet like a rat or a guinea pig. Aim for “fail-safe” pets – Kids are so impressionable.
