I was only recently introduced to the airport by a fellow Queens birder who will remain anonymous here mostly because the property is owned by New York City and one technically shouldn’t be there.

A New York Times story that ran in 2001 about a homeless dog wandering around a suburban part of New York City, struck a chord with me. The boy was wounded by his loss, just as the homeless dog was wounded when his owner died. Today we have a lovely guest post from author Deborah Blumenthal.
