Like every dog they are vulnerable to homelessness and mistreatment. Many shelters do not intake pit bulls at all, and many of the shelters that do find themselves limited in their intake by state regulations or their own policies that dictate pit bull capacity. You can have this done at a vet’s office or at a shelter.
