Led by professionals who have experience with organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States, the group is definitely not new to the issues surrounding animals worldwide.

I'm sure we could do a much better job of ensuring the humane treatment of our laboratory animals--but at this point it's very difficult even to start the discussion. It "guarantees humane treatment?" Isn't it better for science, and more humane, to use just one animal? Maybe on paper.

We pay lip service to more humane treatment of the animals that we eat, but how many of us look beyond the label on the package of chicken cutlets? Kristof is attuned to issues of human suffering and injustice. Unfortunately, that is unlikely to happen any time soon.
