Birding here is a joy, further augmented by the world’s most intact mammalian megafuana, fascinating tribal cultures, breath-taking scenery and the cradle of human history. Nowhere in the world are birds as colorful, easy to see and abundant as in Africa! And Africa is the ONLY continent without an extinct bird to boot!

As noted in their entry the Handbook of the Birds of the World, they are unusual in their close association with palms (hence the name) and in building mud nests (in palms or human buildings). Across the Chobe River from Kasane, overlooking the Caprivi Strip of Namibia. The family reunited in safety.

Prime destinations for seeing African Elephant in the wild include Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Uganda. Black Rhinos are best sought in South Africa, Namibia and Tanzania. They are harmless to humans and their horns are used for wrestling other males for mating rights.

This species prefers wetlands and its numbers have been decimated due to a combination of habitat destruction caused by human population growth and illegal removal of birds and eggs from the wild for the pet and zoo trade. This plain used to be little affected by humans, being grazed by just a few cattle, goats and camels.

I know what a Herring Gull would do with this information: Can we say something Human Intelligent (HI) perhaps? My wife and I had breakfast with Yellow-bellied Greenbul in Namibia. Humourless and referring to competing websites. Maybe, starting with some perspective. Perspective changes everything. Undoubtedly a trash bird?
