The invasive Burmese Python ( Python molurus ) is well established in the Florida Everglade. Another species of Python, the African Python ( Python sebae ) has established a small population in the 2,877-acre Bird Drive Area (BDA) in South Florida. The best chance to catch a Python is during a cold front.
The entire scene from which that bit of dialogue comes, in Monty Python and the Holy Grail , is one of my favorite scenes ever from a movie. The absurdity of mob rule is summed up well, I think, by the idea of a fully healthy human male saying out loud, as evidence of a woman being a witch, that “She turned me into a newt!
This differs from humans and other mammals, in which the addition of extra sperm essentially destroys the egg. Meanwhile, until those answers are found, just relax and let Monty Python explain it all. The research doesn’t fully explain why “supernumerary” (as if they were extras in an opera!)
While not on the scale of bird migration, it is routinely and somewhat lazily described as the biggest annual migration of humans in the world. The Spring Festival – or Chinese New Year – is a big period for traveling in China. Being somewhat allergic to crowds, I usually avoid traveling during the peak of this period.
Apparently, some bird photographers think that any human artifacts shown on a bird photo immediately spoil the whole photo. And of course, on a rather rare occasion for this blog, an almost perfect link to the next bird (my favorite transition is still the Monty Python one: “And now for something completely different”).
Not sure why they spend time in Shanghai in winter when they could come here though, but then again, I usually do not understand most of the behavior of humans either. He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept. Yes, we have them in Shanghai as well. Jerdon has also been noted as being rash.
In addition to the effects of these invasive species on ecosystems, there are also compelling humane and public safety arguments for restricting trade. There is a list of human victims of captive snakes, including a 2-year-old girl who was strangled in her crib by a pet Burmese python who had escaped from its enclosure.
The Python Caves. The Python Caves, as you’ll recall since you certainly read my article (and in some cases actually did, and even told me so and bought the book!) Bats, it seems, are the reservoir of many zoonoses that cause humans, and other creatures, so many issues. Egyptian Fruit Bats. This is as close as we got.
It’s a pleasure to spend time with Ollerton’s prose; as a writer, he’s sometimes quirky and rollicking (with analogies to Led Zeppelin and Monty Python) — but quirky and rollicking in a good way. In this regard Europe is a distinct and strange outlier in comparison to other continents, for some reason still to be discovered.
And now for something completely different (Monty Python). On the one hand, in reserves such as the one at Yancheng, China there are disturbances from humans, particularly in the non-core areas of the reserve ( source ). Other individuals seem to have seen Saturday Night Fever a few times too often and now think they are John Travolta.
The main reason seems to be a better sharing of the workload in the more equal same-sex couples – something that is hardly irrelevant for humans. And now for something completely different (Monty Python): It seems birds are generally quite adept at matching their plumage color with the plastic objects around them.
It seems the ones I got decent photos of are all juveniles – it generally seems to be easier to get photos of juveniles as they have not quite learned to avoid humans. Thank god that this does not apply to humans. Sometimes being a member of the human race feels very embarrassing.
