We have a simple solution to raise more money for the National Wildlife Refuge System. million hunters. Migratory Bird Hunting Stamp (Duck Stamp) sales were at their peak in the 1970′s with 2.1 This means that only 11% of hunters buy the Duck Stamp raising approximately $25 million a year. A lot more money!

The number of people who hunt waterfowl in the US has declined since the mid 1990s. This has benefited both the waterfowl hunters and everyone else who likes ducks and their kin. This equates to a loss of US$126 million in gross revenue and from 42,500 to 80,900 fewer hectares of wetland and upland hectares protected.

It preserves habitat, protects wildlife. Fishing accounted for 21 percent and hunting 7 percent. Coinciding with these figures is something we have suspected for a long time, the majority of Recreational Visitor Days are attributable to non-consumptive activities, followed by fishing activities and hunting activities.

An explanation is given about how market hunters and the draining of wetlands left no place for migrating waterfowl to land or feed and “ the Great Plains soon became a mass graveyard for migratory birds, raising the question, how do we protect birds from man ?” Hunters are not doing it as much any more.

Suspecting they still occurred, we went to considerable effort searching unsuccessfully for picathartes, our suspicions all but confirmed when several hunters I interviewed said they knew the bird and claimed they still existed. Then a few years ago the news broke that picathartes had been rediscovered in Ghana at a community forest reserve!

It's too bad that Latimer's presentation is so obnoxious, as even when he raises what might be valid points, he makes you want to disagree with him. Again, they just want to prevent the "cruel" hunters from killing Bambi's mother. First of all, does he really believe that piffle? What on earth would even give him that idea?
