It is a bit worrying that while the Basel Zoo is listed by Google as having a page on the Red-tailed Laughingthrush , that page itself does not seem to exist anymore, and the species is not listed among the inhabitants of the aviary of the zoo. His obituary was published in Nature.

Some were taken of birds and mammals in zoos or aviaries, others were taken in the wild, often in remote places. Their names echo musically in my brain (and challenge my typing skills) as I look at photos fuzzy and sharp, and read tales of habitat encroachment, avian disease, and hunting. The photographs span the years 1870 to 2004.

Dunayer devotes a chapter each to the language used in hunting, zoos, "marine parks," vivisection and "animal agriculture." An animal's own terms are 'Don't hunt me'" (49). "At Through semantic reversal, fishers (like hunters) pretend to promote rather than destroy life" (67). Often it permanently disables or kills.

One of the first examples I ever encountered was in the books of Gerald Durrell, the famous conservationist who was an early pioneer of the roles of zoos in conservation. He often defended that role in his books from animal rights activists who opposed “imprisoning” animals in zoos even if it saved them from extinction.

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” ” Obviously the dictionary does not equate hunting with conservation. If you have some insane idea that Hunting Is Conservation: I think we all remember the fate of the Passenger Pigeon ?
