Nitin hopes to enlarge his collection of photos of Tigers. I am curious to see whatever awaits us in the Nagzira Tiger Reserve. Among teak and bamboo thickets, a winding forest road takes us deeper into the enchanted Snake Jungle, but alas, not a Tiger in sight. Anyway, it is winter and the snakes should be hibernating.

India Takes More Steps to Protect Tigers

India is to amend its wildlife crime laws to protect the country's tigers, a government minister said. He added that the forest ministry, state governments and a separate authority on the management of tiger reserves had agreed to work together to ensure conservation of the endangered animal.

A Wonderfully Cooperative Cape May Warbler

I have long thought that the Cape May Warbler should have its common name changed to match its scientific name, Setophaga tigrina , because “ Tiger Warbler ” is a much cooler name. It was hard to keep up with the rapid movements of the Cape May Warbler as it hunted down its invertebrate prey but I managed some decent shots.

Raptors were in no short supply, and in addition to a Savanna Hawk , Grey-lined Hawk , and an extremely brief view of a Double-toothed Kite as it careened over the canopy later on, we saw a couple Broad-winged Hawks characteristically hunting from a low perch. Rufescent Tiger-Heron. Broad-winged Hawk. Slowly, we continued.
