I foresee a day, perhaps not far in the future, in which it is illegal to raise cows, pigs, and other animals for food. It is that coercion (via legal prohibition) is not a proper method of protecting animals, at least if the aim is to protect animals. The reason is that it has a backlash effect.

This summer Lisa raised three orphaned Common Ravens. They were not aware of wildlife laws, and thought they could raise and release them. We decided to raise them, and hoped they would wild up quickly if we followed the protocol for avoiding imprinting. She has a captive-bred education bird named Xena, a Eurasian Eagle Owl.

Another advantage to ballistic food transport is that the fruit seeds are protected from damage when they are swallowed whole. Other threats arise from illegal logging, hunting for bushmeat, and other body parts (feathers, beak, etc.) Of course, their own mother is not the only threat to Wreathed Hornbill individuals.
