Located in the Kutch District of Gujarat, the Naliya Grassland is the smallest reserve of India, covering only 2 square kilometers (yes – 0.77 After my trip, I followed the news of this species closely. The latest, 2021 assessment of the IUCN Red List of threatened species, considers 13% of bird species to be facing extinction.

In India, f orensic tests helped establish guilt in the killing of 10 endangered lions. Between February and March 2007, 10 lions were killed by poachers in three different incidents at the Gir National Park (GNP) which houses 360 Asiatic lions, the only surviving population in the wild. The link was clearly established.

Other than paint, the only other thing I do is organize and joint-lead wildlife tours, mostly in Africa and India. The birdlife here is wonderful, a ten-night safari should give you over 200 species, (2018 & 2019 both gave us 242!). I am a wildlife artist based in the UK, I have never had a real job!

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!).
