Although it was once difficult to obtain reliable birding information in the United States, there is now so much information that curated summaries are valuable. I find the bulletin valuable, as it has interesting information that I do not necessarily see elsewhere, and the monthly timing is not too frequent.

AVMA leaders discussed professional liability concerns and related issues Thursday during the AVMA House of Delegates’ (HOD) Veterinary Information Forum, including the program sponsored by the AVMA Professional Liability Insurance Trust (AVMA PLIT).
The pet aftercare industry remains largely unregulated, and veterinarians are often the only source of information that pet owners have when choosing pet aftercare providers. There are many considerations for a veterinarian when it comes to handling pet remains and interacting with the pet owner during this sensitive time.
A persistent and potentially growing concern, according to experts, is the running of unsanctioned, informal horse races. Unregulated horse racing is dangerous for horses and riders, and diseases such as equine infectious anemia and equine piroplasmosis can spread at these bush tracks.
In addition to professional liability, AVMA leaders on Thursday discussed the Association’s Model Veterinary Practice Act and the use of technology during the AVMA House of Delegates’ Veterinary Information Forum.

Information about participation in the studies is available at the database site. Here are some of the most recent veterinary clinical studies listed in the AVMA’s Veterinary Clinical Trials Registry—formerly the AVMA Animal Health Studies Database—as of September 2024.
Birds were selected based on (1) information available; (2) information available elsewhere (thus an emphasis on altricial species and limited waterfowl coverage, since they can be found elsewhere); (3) species most commonly encountered. The scarcity of information on the young of some avian species is astounding.
I routinely review recent eBird checklists for several of my local patches and recently noticed a few with weather information ( e.g. , temperature, wind, cloud cover, humidity, etc.) RainCrow then retrieves the weather information for the location during the time period of the checklist. from something called RainCrow.
Based on analysis of other information (magazine subscriptions, Facebook “likes,” field guide sales, organizational memberships, etc.), Thus, we now have more granular information regarding American eBirders. Of course, this information is not perfect. I believe that FWS wildly overestimates the number of birders.
It contains information about the resident and migratory shorebirds and also the Flatback turtles that nest along the coastline. Turtle nesting information. There is a caravan park at the beach if you want to stay a while. New signage has been installed at the beach in recent years.
Signaling theory examines communication between individuals and groups, within and across species, focusing on whether signals–communications containing complex information–are honest or deceptive and how the exchange of these signals impacts the individuals involved and the larger group or groups to which they belong.
With no mobile signal out on the creek, the captain had not been able to inform his colleague on the jetty why they were delayed, nor for how long. ” “I was here an hour ago,” I graciously informed him through gritted teeth. .”You The captain had an informed spiel that he shouted over the roar of the engine.
Not everybody needs a 1000% perfect accessible trail in order to enjoy birds and the outdoors, but one big barrier is not knowing the trail conditions or accessibility information ahead of time, and that’s a really common problem! Describing trails – or organized bird outings – as “easy” just isn’t enough information. Easy for who…?!).
Apart from some limited description in the HBW, there is again rather limited information available on the species, perhaps because it does not usually live on university campuses and thus is not a preferred target for ornithologists. Yes, sometimes I have more photos that I want to show than useful information.
Go to the site and under Resources you’ll find a wealth of information: species-specific instructions on initial contact with injured/orphaned wildlife, how to mitigate threats to wildlife, how to reunite a baby with its parent. They will take your call, give you free advice, and even talk to the local operator in your area, if need be.
Given the very limited information available on the species in the HBW (e.g., section “Movement”: “No information”), this snowfinch looks like a good candidate for a Ph.D. The Tibetan Snowfinches we saw were not by the lakeshore but at a nearby slightly higher mountain pass.
The review included substantial new information, including, for example, required size of habitat patches. FWS also determined that the petition did not “provide new substantial scientific or commercial information indicating that the petitioned action may be warranted….”.
The website has some information regarding the trails , and the Friends of the Tualatin River NWR website has more. The refuge also has a writeup (including a video) on a website called Access Trails , which has accessibility information for 36 trails and parks in the Portland Metro Area.
As with any NWR, for more information check its comprehensive conservation plan ( here ), and, if applicable, its Friends organization ( here ).). As a result, Nisqually NWR (or more formally: Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually NWR) is one of Washington’s finest and most popular birding locations.
Before the eBird revolution, such near immediate bird sighting information for so much of the globe was never possible. Although various listed hotspots in Costa Rica are excellent sites, some may be better for certain birds or access than others and we just can’t know this information by looking at the hotspot list in eBird.
So it comes as no surprise to me that I now seem to have formed an informal birding club, as a quite spontaneous development. Unfortunately, for the purposes of my blogging “career”, when I am an informal guide I tend to take less, and poorer, photos. And nobody was dissatisfied with the day’s total of 52 species.
Although we do enjoy it immensely, we are not doing it for fun, but to gather information on distribution, habitat choice and density of breeding pairs. European Breeding Bird Atlas 2 presents information on all species reported to breed in the study period (2013 to 2017) and some with more uncertain breeding status.
It’s also about personal journeys, where knowledge comes from and how it is shared, investigating the past through the lens of history and the lens of informed imagination, learning how to negotiate the grays of our ornithological heritage, and the magic of discovery. I really enjoyed these sections.
As you can easily judge from the dullness of this information, it is not something I made up but rather an appalling example of nepotism in the naming of birds. In providing this information, they quote extensively from an ornithology book that was published 3 years before I was born (and I am not a young man).
It is a book with a careful infrastructure, however (even though it doesn’t have an index), with references to one section from another, enabling the curious reader to go down structured rabbit holes, pursuing information on nesting or skeletal systems or feather structure throughout the book. copyright @2020 by David A llen Sibley.
